When is my course payment due?

This depends on the course. A down payment for both the course and accommodation is normally due when you confirm participation. If the course is held at alam sari and/or you are staying at alam sari, a one night accommodation charge is also payable at this time. This is can be paid by credit card and normally non-refundable less than one month from the arrival date or course commencement date so please be as sure as you can be before confirming participation and making payment/deposit.

Cancellation and deposit conditions vary from course to course and especially with non-alam sari based courses. Please check in the course description and information. If you're still unsure, please email info@learninginbali.com

Who is payment made to?

For courses conducted at Alam Sari Keliki, credit card details need to be provided to allow for a deduction. Alternatively payment can be made by bank transfer to ABN AMRO Bank, Jalan Teuku Umar Branch, Denpasar, Bali, Indonesia. Account name P.T.Alam Sari Bali, a/c number (United States dollars) or (Indonesian rupiah). All transfer costs are to be borne by you, the sender, so we should receive the full payment for your course fee deposit and any other deposits due. If not, your enrollment may be cancelled or else you will have to pay the balance on arrival and before the course starts.

  What is the cancellation policy?

We understand that unforeseen circumstances can often occur when educational courses are offered at some distance from the participants home. We will, wherever possible try to accommodate changes in your plans that necesitate changes to your itinerary or even cancellation. However we also need to consider teachers of courses so most of them have a cancellation fee for those who cancel within a month of the course. alam sari cancellations usually incur forfeiting one nights accommodation in the event of cancellation within a month of arrival. In other situations we will try to be as flexible as possible in changing courses to meet your circumstances. We do need as much notice of this as possible however.

Do I need personal and health insurance for my visit to Bali?

Yes, this is highly recommended. As you see below, medical facilities in Bali especially for serious illness and emergencies are not well developed and so in such cases medical evacuation is often required. This can be very expensive and without insurance can be financially crippling.

What will the weather be like at the time of year I’m in Bali?

Bali has two main seasons-the wet and dry season. The wet season generally lasts from September to March and the dry season from April to August. However in a tropical region and at higher altitudes rain can be a daily occurrence even in the 'dry' season. Tropical rain however usually occurs in short spells and is not such an interruption to daily activities as it is in temperate climates. Whether you come in the wet or dry season, a light raincoat/cape is a useful part of your packing throughout the year.

Are there any facilities or activities that my family members including children can do while I’m doing the course in Bali?

Yes, Bali is a great place for kids to both learn and/or do other things while you're learning. We can advise you of a range of activities for children. We have a children's collection of books, games and toys, a childrens menu at our restaurant and activities that children can do at alam sari and its vicinity. In addition a number of our courses are suitable for children to participate in and/or children can do modified or parallel activities. Please ask about these options.

What are medical and health facilities like in Bali?

For minor complaints requiring doctors visits and medication, there are a full range of both local and foreign operated clinics. The staff at alam sari will ensure that all those participating in Learning in Bali sponsored courses are aware of local options if they need them. Most medication can be bought at local pharmacies (apotiks) although specialist drugs and medicines may be difficult to find or expensive-better to bring your own. Local hospitals vary in quality. For treatment of minor illness and injury they offer good service at reasonable prices. Foreign operated clinics also offer such service with English or other foreign language speaking staff however the cost of treatment is higher. However for emergency surgery or major illness evacuation to Jakarta, Singapore or Australia is usually recommended. Make sure you have adequate medical insurance.

Is malaria a problem in Bali and should I take malaria prophylatics?

Bali is officially one of Indonesia's malaria-free areas however mosquitoes are found in some places and if you want to avoid unnecessary risks then taking an anti-malarial pill before, during and after travel to Bali is advised. If in doubt check with your doctor or medical authority.

Yes, certainly as long as the content of your course is deemed to be appropriate to the cultural norms and sensitivities of Bali and Indonesia. The owners of this website will be the sole arbiters of this so if you plan to do this you would need to let us know what your course content is. You and your group can stay at alam sari and have the course there, enjoy all of our facilities and services or make other arrangements. We are happy to make any arrangements you need for such 'self run' or 'self contained' courses you may want to run independently of this site whether you stay at or use alam sari or not. We can also add your course to our Learning in Bali calendar if you wish to open it to other participants. For more information contact us at teach@learninginbali.com
